{"id":9912,"date":"2016-08-11T15:27:29","date_gmt":"2016-08-11T07:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.i-learner.edu.hk\/?p=9912"},"modified":"2018-09-19T22:52:52","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T14:52:52","slug":"student-work-love-to-write-and-creative-thinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.i-learner.edu.hk\/zh\/2016\/08\/student-work-love-to-write-and-creative-thinking\/","title":{"rendered":"Love to Write and creative thinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Out of all the summer courses that we teach at iLearner, the\u00a0<strong><em>Love to Write<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0creative writing course\u00a0places particular emphasis on\u00a0imaginative\u00a0thinking. Not only does success in this course rely on a student&#8217;s strong and confident command of the English language, but a student\u00a0must also think adventurously\u00a0and creatively in order to create engaging and interesting pieces of writing.\u00a0To a certain extent, the\u00a0<em>Love to Write<\/em>\u00a0course is so enjoyable to teach because it\u00a0lets students combine their\u00a0technical knowledge from the\u00a0<em>Advanced Grammar and Reading<\/em>\u00a0course with the analytical skills attained from\u00a0<em>Critical Reading and Writing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Below is an exemplary piece of work from one of my students called\u00a0<strong>Ryan<\/strong>, a student in P1. Above all, his writing displays incredible imagination. During the process of students planning\u00a0their fictional stories, I would often ask Ryan\u00a0to describe his ideas to me,\u00a0at which point he would launch into an unstoppable flow of incredibly\u00a0imaginative\u00a0events, involving interesting characters and magical inventions. He certainly has no lack of inspiration for his stories, which\u00a0I believe to be\u00a0the most essential part of success in creative writing.<\/p>\n<p>His ideas may be slightly convoluted and confusing at first, however through careful structuring and thought planning activities, students like Ryan can learn fairly easily to take control of their wild ideas\u00a0and create\u00a0stories\u00a0which both make sense\u00a0and are engaging to the reader.<\/p>\n<p>Students like Ryan stand out because it is immediately obvious how much he enjoys reading in his spare time. Reading allows him to achieve the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gain wide exposure to advanced vocabulary<\/li>\n<li>Feel confident using verb forms that he has inferred himself<\/li>\n<li>Create interesting storylines, which can then be molded into more coherent narratives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even though there are various minor spelling and grammar errors in Ryan&#8217;s work, these can easily be\u00a0pointed out, and\u00a0he can learn to rectify them.
