Teacher Diaries: Ms. Brenda – Creativity

When you google the term ‘creativity’, probably you’ll have lots of entries about how to be creative. Good for you. Hopefully you’ve got some ideas of divergent thinking. Basically, everyone can be creative or at least we can be trained to be creative. However what are actually the things hindering us from being creative?

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams

We’re trained to avoid making mistakes in our studies and workplace because we want to get the job done and not to get ourselves into any troubles. Building upon our mistakes and turning them into something new can be quite challenging and innovative.

“Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.”- Edward de Bono

Establishing rules and regulations are intended to stabilise the function of society. It’s beneficial for the leaders to manage and make massive production.  However, samples are sometimes just the way of showing what is expected.  It doesn’t have to be the same as the original, does it?

“Make an empty space in any corner of your mind, and creativity will instantly fill it.” – Dee Hock

Have you found your schedule mostly occupied after school or work? Children can be busier than adults. Their learning schedule after school is sometimes tighter than what we’ve got after work. If they’ve got more room to consolidate what they’ve learnt, they may have more to develop.

In short, nothing can stop us from being creative. Sometimes we’ve just forgotten about it. So, it’s time to move on.
