A week in the life of a Cambridge student

As a law student at Cambridge, my week is a careful balancing act between intense academic commitments, sports at a high level, and making the most of the social side of university life. With five different modules, each taught by a specialist supervisor, no two days look exactly the same.

Academics:

On average, I have around 11 hours of lectures each week, spread from Monday to Friday. The real workload comes from my supervisors – roughly three each week, scheduled anywhere from Monday to Sunday. Each supervision involves around 15 hours of preparatory reading, plus problem questions and a fortnightly essay. These sessions, which last about two hours, are a chance to explore topics in depth with experts who push me to think critically and defend my reasoning.

Sports:

Outside the library, I play polo with CUPC (Cambridge University Polo Club) and small-bore shooting with CUSBC (Cambridge University Small Bore Club), both at Varsity Blues level. Training and competitions take up a significant amount of time, but sport provides a valuable break from the mental demands of law.

Other:

Once a week I enjoy a formal dinner, a unique Cambridge tradition that combines formality with the chance to catch up with friends. I also meal prep to save time during my busiest days. No matter how full the week becomes, I make sure to set aside time for socialising, whether that’s grabbing a coffee between lectures or spending an evening out. Cambridge life moves quickly, but by balancing academic focus, extracurriculars, and social time, I make sure every week is as rewarding as it is challenging.
